Experience pure Helvetian luxury

Zürich

When I visit Zurich for work, I usually try to see more of the city than just my hotel, even though I’m a true fan of the classic Storchen. Paracelsus, Richard Wagner, and John Irving also regularly stayed at this wonderful Hotel.

Where to eat & drink

  • LA RÔTISSERIE

An excellent classic restaurant, located in the Storchen hotel.

  • BAR 45

Trendy spot for an aperitivo, coffee or quick lunch.

  • RESTAURANT KLE

One of the best vegetarian restaurants in Europe: KLE by Zizi Hattab. Her exclusively plant based dishes are little works of art. I have only encountered such levels of perfection at one other vegetarian restaurant in Tokyo.

  • 4 TIERE BAR

After whiskey, my favourite poison is a G&T. Although a British tradition, this bar shows us that the Swiss can beat them at their own game. This is a small bar with a large choice of drinks: in the 4 Tiere Bar (4 animal bar) – the name was taken over from the bar’s previous owner – gin lovers can choose from among 650 different kinds of gin. Fortunately the competent barkeepers can help guests decide, for they know the story behind each and every bottle on the shelf.

  • KRONENHALLE BAR

Almost 100 years old and a true Zurich legend. I’ve come here ever since I was a kid. There is hardly a more history-steeped and sophisticated bar in Zurich: at Bellevue, guests enjoy drinks in an elegant atmosphere surrounded by art and artists.

What to do

  • BONGÉNIE GRIEDER

Department store for some super high end shopping.

  • SWISS NATIONAL MUSEUM

The largest and most significant depository of Swiss history and culture.

  • SEEBAD ENGE

Stunning lake, chic crowd. Bring your big sunglasses, bikinis and shorts and enjoy a swim on the two pontoons floating in the water.

  • FABRIC FRONTLINE

Silk luxury accessories designed and made in Zurich. I love their ties and compare them to France’s Hermes & England’s Liberty of London in terms of quality.

  • PAVILLON LE CORBUSIER

Who doesn’t love Le Corbusier? I certainly do, ever since I was a kid. This last work by the great architect stands in a beautiful location on Lake Zurich.
The ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ – total work of art – was completed in 1967 and is a real architectural masterpiece. It is also the only building by the French-Swiss architect to be entirely made from glass and steel.

  • NEUES SCHLOSS PRIVAT HOTEL

This elegant hotel in the immediate vicinity of Lake Zurich delights with its harmonious interplay between urban luxury and the ambiance of an individual private hotel. Built in the 1930s in the Zurich art deco style.
