Where to get Amsterdam’s best pastries & chocolates
LANSKROON
No festive Christmas & New Years holidays without oliebollen from Lanskroon. You might see lines with other shops being promoted by Tripadvisor, but the insiders know better. Also for their ‘stroopwafels’ and truffles, this is the place.
POMPADOUR
Patisserie using classic French techniques, offering beautifully crafted pastries. It’s the kind of place you slip into for a perfect éclair or tarte, best enjoyed slowly with a coffee, Parisian style in Amsterdam.
WOLF BAKERY
If you are looking for the best croissants ever, this is the place. In particular the chocolate croissants are not to be missed. You can also have breakfast, lunch or dinner here.

MASSIMO
My favourite is Sorbetto Pistache, also in winter. Of course with wipped cream.

BLOMMESTEIN
A great patisserie since 1925, with a secret weapon: marzipan cream pies that have to be tasted to be believed. They are also famous for their tompoucen
VAN DER LINDE
This ice cream vendor and patisserie is a top spot for ‘Mergpijpjes’, a Dutch twist on a Swedish concept: a small cylindrical pastry covered with green marzipan with the ends dipped in chocolate.
SAINT-JEAN AMSTERDAM
An instant favourite. Truly artisanal pastries and cakes, made with craftmanship in a beautiful minimalist environment.
PATISSERIE HOLTKAMP
Another local legend, this long-running patisserie has a beautiful art deco interior. They sell every sweet thing your heart could desire, but if you try one thing, it should definitely be the chocolate balls and the tompouce, they honor this classic like no other.
VAN SOEST CHOCOLATIER
This is an amazing chocolatier on Frederiksplein, and my go to spot for sweet treats. Their caramel sea salt ice cream is a must for desert. They also have the most fantastic Christmas chocolates and new white chocolate truffles with a kletskop that I always have to buy to take with me when we go to Ibiza.
Where to get wine & hearty snacks in Amsterdam
KADDOUR
The place to be for the best grilled chicken sausage with Jalapeno. You can buy them at AH as well, but the warm sausages from the shop are unbeatable. This halal butcher is one of the most known in Amsterdam.

CAFEÉ MARCELLA
Stop in this cosy cafe for a refreshing glass of cava, combined with an unbeatable bitterbal as a snack.
HERGO
This butcher with three locations has the most amazing truffle eggs and carpaccio salads.
ZERO ZERO
‘The bomb’, according to Ferry. Simple selection of the best Italian sandwiches to take-away. They are situated in Amsterdam Center and in the Pijp.

SLAGERIJ VET
One of the oldest butcheries, over 60 years old, in Amsterdam, located on the Zeedijk. The ‘Zeedijk salad’ is amazing according to Ferry, and their grilled sausage is also a must. Don’t be surprised if you end up eating it all before you even arrive home!
DE KAASKAMER
The best cheeses ever for ‘the borrel’: the Dutch tradition of pre-dinner snacks and drinks. With over 350 different cheeses, they truly have everything: from obscure local cheeses to every foreign variety you can imagine. They also sell great fondue kits and are always happy to advice. Prefer to stay indoors? They also offer delivery in true Dutch fashion - by bike!
FEDUZZI
An amazing Italian trattoria and delicacy store. Opened in 1981, it was one of the first Italian delicacy stores in the Netherlands. It is truly a little piece of Italy, where you can not just shop for the best Italian products, but also sit down and have a nice espresso. Aside from importing from Italy, they also make their own products, I love their tapenade especially. Other recommendations are their fresh pastas and great sandwiches.
DE GOUDEN TON
This is the place to go for the best wines. An amazingly wide selection, coupled with great service and expertise.
Top Amsterdam spots to shop specialty groceries
SLAGERIJ DE SCHUYT
This classic butcher with some of the best filet Americain you’re going to find in Amsterdam, a must!
HAPJESHOEK
Located in the stationhall of the Waterlooplein. I love everything they have. Especially Madame Jeanette Piccalilly and Sambal. If it is finished when I am on Ibiza, I will let it fly in.
ZIKKING
Filet Americain and ‘Likkepot’ are the real specialty here. Their rotisserie chicken is also fantastic.
VISQUE WINKEL
The restaurant Visque is renown in the south of Amsterdam as a top spot for fish and seafood, and their own fish shop continues that tradition. Amazingly fresh.
CIAO BELLA RESTAURANT & TRAITEUR
A restaurant and traiteur with multiple locations in Amsterdam, focused on authentic Italian cooking. Perfect for both shopping and a quick bite on the go. Especially recommended are the melanzane and the ricotta-spinach lasagna. Healthy, hearty and delicious.
POELIER JONKER
This poultry speciality store is the spot for a variety of lunch and dinner treats. Their stuffed turkey and tuna salad are amazing, and their minced chicken with apricots and figs is an amazingly versatile spread that works both by itself as well as on a sandwich.
CASA DEL GUSTO
For the best burrata and fresh ricotta in town! This Italian speciality grocery store has a great selection of fresh products as well as wines and lemonades.
