“For my film work I regularly visit Abu Dhabi. This time my family accompanied me. We visited the Louvre and we were impressed with the stunning architecture of the building. As a family we also enjoyed ‘Dune Bashing’: off-road driving in the desert. A couple of years ago I did a similar trip with friends and we also slept in the desert. Cold, but looking up and gazing at the stars was an incredible experience.”
The impressive Louvre Abu Dhabi complex, which is covered by a dome of metal stars, consists of no fewer than 55 small buildings with a total of 23 different exhibition spaces.
Half of the collection is on loan from the Parisian mother museum and various other French museums.
The museum has a turbulent and interesting history, with French academics criticizing the international Louvre expansion as too commercially motivated. Be guided by Film Producer and Bearleader David Bijker.
